For many Fantasy Premier League managers, captaining a defender is unthinkable, but one former champion says that could be about to change.

Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso (£6.8m) is the highest-scoring player in the 2018/19 game, with 44 points so far, thanks to one goal, five assists and two clean sheets.

While 2014/15 winner Simon March admits Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is the leading candidate for the armband, Alonso faces Cardiff City at home, which he says makes the Spaniard a worthy alternative.

"I really like Alonso," March says in the latest FPL Show.

"I would pick Aguero, but looking at Alonso, there is a conventional wisdom in Fantasy Football that you should never captain a defender, but he's not really a defender anymore!"
