Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) may have scored five goals in six matches for Manchester United across all competitions, but his failure to net in the last two Gameweeks has left Fantasy Premier League managers wondering what to do with him.
The forward has been the most popular captain for his successive blanks, failing to find the net in a 1-0 home defeat by Aston Villa before he scored one point as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Everton.
On the latest episode of the FPL Show, Fantasy expert Sam Bonfield says Man Utd's upcoming run of fixtures mean it could be time to move the Portuguese on, especially with the contrasting upcoming matches for Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku (£11.7m).
“I think we might be at that point now, which is a shame really," Sam says. "He came in, set the world on fire and changed FPL fundamentally. We were all going, 'How do we budget for him? Do we take [Mohamed] Salah out? Do we try and have all of these premium assets?’
“But we are at a stage now where the fixtures for one of the other premium forwards in the game has suddenly taken a turn for the better, and with some slight doubts about Ronaldo - in terms of [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer benching him once and it could it happen again, plus the fixture change for Man Utd - it could be the right time."
Favourable opponents
Sam's husband Lee, the other half of the FPL Family, believes it may be worth keeping hold of Ronaldo, whom he feels has just the right opponents to bounce back against in Gameweek 8, when United visit Leicester City.
“If you are looking to sell him, I don’t disagree with Sam the fixtures do look difficult," Lee says.
"I can see why people would make the move to [Romelu] Lukaku, but not this week. Leicester’s defence is the fourth-worst in the league for goals conceded."
