The Premier League has awarded Sky Sports the near-live extended highlights and mobile clip rights in the UK for the three seasons 2018/19 to 2020/21.

Sky Sports already has exclusive live rights to 128 Premier League matches next season.

The new deal includes in-game goals and clips for mobile devices from Sky Sports live matches and all other matches that are not televised live, excluding Saturday 15:00 kick-offs, for which clips will be available from 17:15.

It also allows Sky to extended highlights and rights on demand through their "Game of the Day" and "Match Choice" programmes.

'Final pieces of the puzzle'

"The Premier League continues to be a captivating competition that we all love, so we're delighted to add the final pieces of the puzzle from next season so that fans can continue to follow the whole story with Sky Sports," Sky Sports Managing Director Barney Francis said.

"Mobile clips and On Demand highlights are a really important element of what we offer, when combined with the 128 live games, it means for a Sky Sports customer they’ve got the Premier League totally covered."

Increased viewing of PL

Sky Sports says it has enjoyed a 12 per cent increase in viewing of the Premier League in this season compared with this time in 2017/18. Sky also says four separate matches this season have had an average UK audience of more than 2million people.

"Sky Sports provides brilliant Premier League content for fans of our clubs and we are very pleased they have chosen to invest in these rights," Richard Scudamore, Premier League Executive Chairman said.

"Viewers increasingly want more choice over how and when they consume our competition and Sky’s ability to complement these digital clip and on-demand rights with their extensive live-match coverage is great news for fans."
