Select Group referee Mark Clattenburg has been chosen to officiate the UEFA Euro 2016 final between France and Portugal on Sunday.

The 41-year-old Englishman, who also took charge of the UEFA Champions League final in May, has become only the second man to officiate both major European finals in the same year, after Pedro Proenca in 2012.

The appointment will complete an extraordinary seven weeks for the former electrician, who had the honour of being in charge of the FA Cup final in May.

Clattenburg will be joined in Paris on Sunday by fellow PGMOL assistants Simon Beck and Jake Collin, with Anthony Taylor and Andre Marriner selected as additional assistants.

Hungary's Viktor Kassai and Gyorgy Ring will be the fourth official and assistant referee respectively.

"It is a great testament to Mark and his team that the quality of their performances throughout the tournament, and in their matches this season, have been recognised and rewarded by UEFA with the prestige of officiating the final," said PGMOL General Manager Mike Riley.

"It promises to be an exciting game and a great atmosphere in Paris. I’m sure that Mark, along with his assistant referees Simon Beck and Jake Collin, and additional assistant referees Andre Marriner and Anthony Taylor, will be fully prepared for the game.

"Their experience of working together in the Champions League final in Milan will undoubtedly help their preparations. It will be an occasion they're all looking forward to immensely.

"As an organisation we are very proud of what they have achieved. Their success, and that of Martin Atkinson and his team earlier in the tournament, reflects well on the standards and teamwork of all of the Select Group. We wish them every success on Sunday evening."

Sunday's final is the latest FIFA or UEFA final in recent years to feature PGMOL officials.

Howard Webb took charge of the UEFA Champions League final and FIFA World Cup final in 2010, Steven Attwell was referee for the 2011 UEFA European Under-19 Championship and Clattenburg was the man in the middle for the Olympic Games Gold medal match the next year as well as the UEFA Super Cup final in 2014.

Martin Atkinson and Michael Oliver officiated the Europa League final and the Under-17 World Cup final respectively in 2015, the same year Anthony Taylor was in charge for the 2015 UEFA European U19 Championship final.

Sunday's final will be Clattenburg's fourth appointment of the tournament, after Belgium v Italy, Czech Republic v Croatia and Switzerland v Poland.

Clattenburg, who has been an international referee since 2007, will also become the first English referee of a UEFA European Championship final since Arthur Ellis (1960) and Arthur Holland (1964) did so.
