Kenji Gorre scored the only goal as Swansea City beat Burnley in a straight shootout to progress to the last 16 as Group D runners-up.

Swansea headed to Burnley's Tameside Stadium knowing only a win would send them through along with Newcastle United, who could themselves still be overtaken by the Clarets if they failed to beat bottom-club Colchester United.

But Gorre's 11th goal of the season, set up by Jordon Garrick on 37 minutes, sent the Swans through to the next round.

Burnley could not get the point they needed as Christian N'Guessan headed wide, Jordan Barnett missed a one-on-one and Ntumba Massanka hit the post.
