We could soon have a new leader in our Clash Across the Pond League - a contest combining two teams of Fantasy Premier League Draft experts from the UK and US.

Two of the UK's top managers went head-to-head last weekend, with Paul McKinnon seeing off Andy's Mears' Allstars to threaten his place at the summit.

Paul could now seal top spot with a victory in Gameweek 11.

Gameweek 10 results
Team Score Team
Get on the Snake (US) 44 39 Sutherns Comfort (UK)
10 Huddersfield Lane (US) 38 50 Sean's Super Subs (US)
Andy's Allstars (UK) 38 47 Woody Allen (UK)
Jonty's XI (UK) 39 51 Rotoworld PL (US)

We quizzed Paul on his recent success, to find that he owed his rise to a stroke of fortune in the transfer market.

Team name: Woody Allen

Current squad: Courtois, Gomes, Valencia, Maguire, Davies, Otamendi, Cahill, Sanchez, Sane, Choupo-Moting, Lanzini, B Silva, King, Firmino, Joselu.

Sometimes it’s the transfers you don’t make that can prove all the difference to your Fantasy prospects.

Prior to Gameweek 4, I was desperate to get rid of Leroy Sane.

I had high hopes heading into the season but the Manchester City winger began the campaign as a peripheral figure.

After the first three league matches, he’d played 98 minutes, starting once, and returned four points.

But my attempt to swap out Sane for Robbie Brady was rebuffed as a league rival - Joe Lepper - beat me in the waiver system.

It's fair to say I'm grateful for his pursuit of the Burnley midfielder.

From Gameweek 4 onwards, Sane has delivered six goals, five assists and nine bonus points.

Brady, meanwhile, has provided Joe with just one assist over the same period.

In terms of points, that’s 68 to 21 to Sane across those ensuing seven Gameweeks, or a swing of 47 points in my favour due to that failed waiver.

Clearly, that’s been a key part in my improved results.

The lesson here?

There are such fine margins between success and failure in Draft, it can pay to be cautious when considering ousting a player capable of big points.
