The Blues went 2-0 up when Ike Ugbo scored his 12th goal of the season from close range, four minutes after half-time. The result means they stay fourth because third-placed Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 on the same afternoon.
Reading remain 10th, two points outside of the relegation zone, and they travel to Manchester United in their next PL2 match on Sunday 19 February. Two days before that, Chelsea host Manchester City.
