Jonathan Leko, who made a substitute appearance in West Bromwich Albion's Premier League defeat to Manchester United on Saturday, scored for the club's Under-23 side but could not help them avoid a Premier League 2 Division 2 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Leko played alongside Saido Berahino and put his side ahead in the 14th minute at Crawley Town, but James Tilley equalised with a 39th-minute penalty before central defender Tom Dallison hit an 80th-minute winner for the Seagulls.
The result leaves Brighton in ninth place in the table and only two points behind West Brom, who dropped down to seventh.
