More than 100 girls from primary and secondary schools in Southampton helped last week to showcase the work Saints Foundation do with its Premier League Girls Football programme.

The event, held as part of FA Girls Football Week and Southampton FC's "Same Game'" awareness campaign, involved skill schools, Soccercise exercise progammes and football rounders at St George Catholic College.

"It's amazing to see so many girls here, regardless of whether they have played football before or not," said Martina Heath, head of Women's & Girls Football at Southampton.

"Just the smiles on their faces and even in the warm-up session, some of them were saying, 'I can't do that' but by the end they were doing it, scoring and having fun."

Southampton's PL Girls programme is in its fourth year, having started in September 2013.

During last season, Saints Foundation engaged 160 participants with 10 satellite sessions across the week.
