"I know what I want to be doing, I am so much happier."

As part of this week's FA Girls' Football Week one female participant describes how Leicester City have developed her love of the game.

Megan Spinks volunteers on Leicester City Community Trust's Premier League Girls Football programme, an initiative that has made a big difference to her life.

Two years ago, Megan, 18, left school with disappointing GCSE grades in Maths and English.

"I didn't really know where I was going," she told premierleague.com. "I was on a college course that I didn't want to do. I wasn't happy."

But through the Premier League Works initiative, Megan joined the Premier League Girls Football programme. She became a volunteer on the scheme after expressing an interest in coaching and has not looked back.

While doing the programme she has gained many qualifications and has gone back to redo her Maths and English GCSEs, getting improved grades.

She has also gained her FA Level 1 qualification and so will get paid employment with the Trust in the future.

"I have found my path," she said. "If I look back to where I was and where I am now, it's quite amazing.

"I have gained so much more confidence in myself. I have made a lot of new friends and I have got myself a job at the football club - volunteering on PL Girls as well as working with the 'Here to Help' team on matchdays.

"Before, I was quite a shy person, I didn't really go out and communicate with people that much whereas now I am thrown in at the deep end, I'm meeting loads of new girls, playing with new people all the time.

"I have grown a lot as a person through it and I am so much happier. I know what I want to be doing."

Megan was also at the Premier League season launch, in August, mixing with the likes of Claudio Ranieri and Arsene Wenger.

"Being a part of it was amazing," she said. "I am just a normal person and I was surrounded by football players and managers. It was incredible.

"When I was younger, I struggled to get into teams and I played with a lot of boys but now there's so much more for young girls to do.

"Girls should get the opportunities that boys do and I feel now they get more of an opportunity. A lot of girls want to play.

"To anyone thinking about this course, do it. Even if you are not interested in football, it's going to help you as a person.

"You are only going to gain from it, you are going to get qualifications, experience and you might find out who you are and what you want to do."
