Antonio Barreca has joined Newcastle United on loan from Monaco until the end of the 2018/19 season, the club have confirmed.
The 23-year-old Italian left-back has signed a deal with an option for the Magpies to sign him permanently at the end of the campaign.
"The left-back/left-wing-back position is one we've been looking to strengthen for a while and he's an Italy under-21 international who we know has quality, good delivery and is good going forward," Rafa Benitez told Newcastle's official website.
"He has the attributes, he has the quality and he has the characteristics that we look for."
Newcastle are next in action at Wembley, where they will face Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday's 12:30 GMT kick-off.
