1996: Ravanelli lands at the Riverside

Fabrizio Ravanelli was signed for Middlesbrough from Juventus after helping the Serie A side win the UEFA Champions League the previous season.

The Italy international, known in his homeland as "the White Feather" due to his prematurely grey hair, made an immediate impact on the Premier League, scoring a hat-trick on his Premier League debut against Liverpool and establishing a famous goal celebration, whereupon he pulled his shirt over his head while wheeling away in delight.

Despite producing 16 goals in his first season in English football, and helping Boro reach the League and FA Cup finals, Bryan Robson's side were relegated.

The England centre-back went on to spend 11 seasons at Goodison Park, becoming club captain and making 315 PL appearances for the Blues, scoring 13 goals.
