Opi Edwards scored with a deflected free-kick to take Bristol City into the knockout stages of the Premier League Cup with a 1-0 win over Liverpool at Ashton Gate.

Edwards' (pictured, left) set-piece on the half-hour hit the visitors' wall and left goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher stranded.

Gary O'Neil captained City in his first appearance for six months following an injury lay-off.

The Robins, who lost 7-0 to Liverpool in the reverse fixture in November, have reached the last 16 ahead of their match with Charlton Athletic and top Group G with 10 points.

Liverpool and Stoke City both have seven points, with the Reds having the better goal difference, and their February 26 meeting will decide the second qualifying place.
