A wonderful solo goal by Ovie Ejaria earned Liverpool a 2-1 comeback victory against Newcastle United in their opening Premier League International Cup tie at Prenton Park.

The midfielder (pictured above left) struck on 73 minutes when he collected Liam Millar’s backheel and jinked his way beyond a defender and the goalkeeper to score.

Neil Critchley's side might have led inside the opening 60 seconds when Rhian Brewster, back on club duty after his Under-17 World-Cup winning heroics with England, was repelled by Nathan Harker.

Liverpool went behind when Callum Roberts scored for Newcastle midway through the first half.

Matty Virtue levelled from close range soon before Ejaria, who helped England U20 win the World Cup this year, struck the winner.

The Reds are level at the top of Group A with Newcastle, having played a match fewer.
