Middlesbrough scored three second half goals to earn a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in their Premier League Cup Group A opener at Alfreton.

Luke Armstrong opened the scoring with a low shot in the 56th minute and George Miller doubled the lead from close range soon afterwards.

Hayden Coulson made sure of the points when he fired home a loose ball in the 81st minute.

Boro went top of the group on goal difference ahead of Derby County, who beat Birmingham City 1-0 in the opening group match on Friday.

In the next round of matches on Wednesday 1 November, Middlesbrough entertain Birmingham while Forest take on Derby.

Middlesbrough are back in Premier League 2 Division 2 action on Sunday 15 October when they host Reading.
