Donovan Wilson scored in the 10th minute to give Wolverhampton Wanderers a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James' Park in Division 2.
Wilson converted a cross from Sherwin Seedorf to give the visitors a victory which meant they moved up to sixth place at their hosts' expense.
The Magpies included first-teamers Rolando Aarons, Jack Colback and Dwight Gayle, who had a header ruled out for offside and an effort cleared off the line.
Despite second-half chances for Gayle's substitute Yasin Ben El-Mhanni and Kyle Cameron, Wolves held on for their third win of the season.
The visitors are now one point ahead of the Magpies in mid-table.
Both sides play their next matches in the Premier League Cup, with Newcastle hosting Burnley on Friday 29 September and Wolves visiting Bury three days later.
