Liverpool have announced that Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract at the club.

The 32-year-old, who was due to be out of contract this summer, is set to extend his eight years at the club by another two years, head coach Arne Slot has confirmed.

“Of course I’m very excited,” Salah told Liverpool’s official website. "We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.

“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”

The first trophy that Salah is setting his sights on is the Premier League, where Liverpool enjoy an 11-point lead with seven matches remaining.

Salah is keen to lift the trophy a second time, having won it in 2019/20, especially as the first title was claimed during the COVID-19 pandemic when fans were unable to attend Anfield.

“I think I said in the beginning of the season, I just want to win the Premier League more than anything else. I want it so bad, to be fair,” Salah said.

“The fans deserve it – last time we won it we didn’t celebrate it that much. Hopefully we do it this time. There’s still seven games to go, it’s not going to be easy at all because Arsenal are also catching up.

“We’ll give it our all and hopefully in the end we can win it.”

Liverpool's quest for a second Premier League title will continue on Sunday when they host West Ham United.
