Sunderland all but secured their Division 1 safety after coming from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 at Eppleton Colliery Welfare.

Lynden Gooch, Donald Love and George Honeyman featured for the Black Cats, but it was Arsenal who went in front when Donyell Malen nette on 55 minutes.

But Gooch levelled when his strike squirmed underneath Gunners goalkeeper Hugo Keto to level the match 13 minutes later, before substitute Luke Molyneux scored a late winner.

Sunderland's first Premier League 2 win of 2017 moves them up to sixth position, six points above the relegation zone.

The Black Cats face bottom club Reading in their last match on 8 May. The only way Sunderland can go down is if Leicester City, in 11th, win both their remaining fixtures. Fourth-placed Arsenal face Manchester United in their final fixture on the same day.
