Spectacular strikes by Bassala Sambou and Kieran Dowell helped Everton move a step closer to clinching the Division 1 title with a 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.

Ademola Lookman broke the deadlock with just over an hour played when he finished off Brendan Galloway’s cross from close range.

Sambou doubled the hosts’ lead with a wonderful 25-yard drive seven minutes later, and although Kazaiah Sterling headed a goal back for Spurs, the contest was effectively over when Dowell unleashed another long-range beauty.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin added gloss to the scoreline late on when he pounced on an error by Spurs goalkeeper Tom Glover.

The result means Everton can lift the title with a victory in their next match, at fifth-placed Chelsea on Friday 21 April.

Spurs, in sixth, are not yet safe from relegation. They are four points above the bottom two with two matches remaining. The first is against Manchester United at visit Old Trafford on Monday 24 April.
