Tony Yeboah reveals his iconic Leeds goal came about because he wanted to impress his heroes

Leeds United v Liverpool has seen some great goals down the years, and perhaps none more so than Tony Yeboah's iconic volley at Elland Road in August 1995.

But did you know Yeboah's iconic strike was in fact inspired by an opponent he was facing that day?

"I was so excited just to play against a fantastic team like Liverpool," Yeboah recalls ahead of Leeds' latest meeting with the Reds on Monday night.

"I'm a Liverpool fan and I saw my hero, John Barnes. I used to see him in my childhood and now I'm playing against him. "I thought 'I have to do something!'

"My goal was the only goal of the game. We won 1-0 and afterwards all my heroes came to me to shake my hand. I'll never forget it."
