AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of left-back Adrien Truffert from Ligue 1 side Rennes.

The 23-year-old joins the Cherries on a five-year contract, as he departs the club where he has spent his entire career so far.

What did he have to say?

"I felt the club’s confidence in me from the first discussions, and I’m excited to get started," Truffert said on Bournemouth's website.

"It’s a dream for any player to play in the Premier League. It’s one of the best and most competitive leagues in the world. I’m looking forward to testing myself at this level, facing top players every week, and helping the team achieve great things."

Truffert’s career so far

Born in Liege, Belgium, on 20 November 2001, Truffert joined Rennes' academy in 2015 and quickly rose through the ranks to become an important figure in the senior squad.

In total, Truffert played 191 times for Rennes in all competitions, scoring nine goals and producing 23 assists.

His rise has been mirrored on the international stage as well, having represented France at Under-18, U19, and U21 levels.

He was also a part of Thierry Henry’s squad that clinched a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Truffert has been capped once by France's senior side; he made his debut as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat to Denmark in September 2022.

How does he fit in at Bournemouth?

Truffert is a modern, forward-thinking full-back known for his pace, intelligence, and ability to impact both ends of the pitch.

Comfortable playing anywhere along the left flank, Truffert's versatility makes him a perfect fit for Andoni Iraola’s dynamic system.

He scored twice in 12 matches as a left-back in 2024/25 and produced one goal and two assists in 19 appearances as a left winger.

Should Milos Kerkez, who has been heavily linked with Liverpool, leave Bournemouth this summer, Truffert's combination of technique and tenacity could make him the ideal replacement. Whatever the outcome there, the new signing will certainly add quality and depth to Iraola's defensive options.

When could he make his debut?

Truffert's first match in Bournemouth colours could come against Hibernian in pre-season on 15 July.

The Cherries are also taking part in the Premier League Summer Series in the United States, with matches scheduled against Everton, Manchester United and West Ham United.

Bournemouth will find out who their first Premier League opponents are for the 2025/26 season when the fixtures are released on Wednesday 18 June at 09:00 BST.
