'Never captain a defender' is one of the unwritten rules of Fantasy Premier League. But it is one managers should consider breaking in Gameweek 28.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.7m) is in such excellent form that Gianni Buttice says the right-back, who has produced attacking or defensive returns in 11 successive Gameweeks, is a better option than Liverpool team-mates Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) and Sadio Mane (£12.4m).

"He's consistent, unlike potentially Salah or Mane, who we'll see the occasional blanks with," says the Fantasy expert on the latest FPL Show.

"We often see a defender and think, 'Oh, the ceiling's not too high, let's go for a midfielder or a forward.' But actually Trent's had a 24-point week this season. His ceiling is incredibly high."

'Stay safe with Salah'

But for managers unwilling to take the risk, Salah is a good alternative, with eight goals and two assists in his five matches against Saturday's opponents Watford.

"If you want to be safe you go with Salah because of the effective ownership," says Buttice. "So many managers have got him and he will be the most-captained."
