The sixth round of this season's Fantasy Premier League Cup will be held in Gameweek 22.

For managers keen to extend their run and prioritise the chance of silverware over their overall season rank, scouting your next opponent is one of the main ways to gain an extra edge.

Assessing their team and tactics can be vital in preparing for the Gameweek ahead.

Spot the habits

Although you cannot view the transfers your opponent has made for the Gameweek, a look back at their season so far can provide hints on how they will set up their starting XI.

This can also help determine whether they have favoured tactics when it comes to selecting their captain.

Do they only captain players with home matches? Do they only give the armband to players from certain teams, such as Liverpool or Manchester City, or do they have a go-to option like Jamie Vardy (£10.0m)?

Target differentials

Analysing your opponent's squad can also help pinpoint areas where differentials could be decisive.

For example, if your rival has James Maddison (£7.7m) for Leicester City’s home match against Southampton, you could consider Ayoze Perez (£6.0m) instead.

Perez has provided double-figure hauls in his last two matches and claimed 20 points against Saints in Gameweek 10.

Plan ahead

Studying the schedules can also help when deciding your transfers.

Manchester United have a favourable home fixture against Norwich City in Gameweek 22. But they then face a tough trip to Liverpool the following weekend.

Managers who already own Marcus Rashford (£9.1m) may think twice over doubling up and bringing in Anthony Martial (£7.9m).

Instead, they could buy Richarlison (£8.0m) for Everton's kind run of opponents.

According to the Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR), their next four matches score just two.

Bringing in the Brazilian at home against Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend also sets up your team for Gameweek 23, when he visits West Ham United.

No easy giveaways

Avoiding points hits whenever possible is essential. For every hit you take, your opponent gains a four-point advantage.

This was particularly important for last season's FPL Cup winner, Ricky Mansukhani.

He said: "Whenever I could save my free transfer, I would save it.

"Just make one transfer a week. Only if you really need to, then take your points hit."

Mansukhani's tactics in limiting the risk involved each Gameweek paid off in his quest for cup glory.
