Newcastle United suffered their first defeat since Matchweek 2 at Liverpool last weekend and return home having drawn 1-1 with Watford in their last match at St James' Park.

Brighton & Hove Albion are without a win since the opening weekend but halted a two-match losing streak last time out as they drew with Burnley.

Team news

Head coach Steve Bruce confirms strike duo Andy Carroll and Allan Saint-Maximin could be in Newcastle's squad.

Carroll (ankle) is fit again and in contention for a second Magpies debut, while Saint-Maximin returns from a hamstring problem. Fabian Schar is also available but Sean Longstaff (ankle) misses out.

Brighton's Martin Montoya has recovered from illness, but Bernardo (knock) only has an outside chance of featuring.

Graham Potter is still without Leon Balogun, Alireza Jahanbakhsh (both muscle), Leandro Trossard (groin) and Ezequiel Schelotto (knee).

Did you know?

After winning home and away against Brighton when both sides were promoted from the Championship in 2016/17, Newcastle have not won any of their Premier League meetings with the Seagulls (D2 L2).

Only against West Ham United, with five, do Brighton have a better unbeaten record in the Premier League than they do against Newcastle (W2 D2).

Steve Bruce is looking to avoid becoming only the second Newcastle manager after Steve McClaren to fail to win his opening three Premier League matches at St James' Park.

Brighton striker Neal Maupay has scored seven goals in his last 11 league matches.
