He has made only one Premier League start but Olivier Giroud (£7.8m) is emerging as a force to be reckoned with in Fantasy Premier League, according to FPL expert Sam Bonfield.

The Chelsea striker rewarded his first start in Gameweek 6 against Cardiff City with two assists, but the backing of team-mate Eden Hazard (£10.9m) ensures he will become a regular starter, Bonfield believes.

"I'm really tempted by Giroud," says Bonfield in the latest episode of the FPL Show. "I think when the key man in your team, Hazard for Chelsea, comes out and says that you are the target man who makes him play better, as a Fantasy owner you have to listen to that.

"And Maurizio Sarri does as well. So it’s looking good for Giroud."

The Frenchman was also rested for Chelsea’s midweek UEFA Europa League match, further evidence he is likely to start against West Ham United on Sunday, Bonfield suggests.

"If Alvaro Morata [£9.0m] is going to play Europa League football, Giroud is probably going to take the lead in the Premier League."
