Newcastle United have agreed a deal with Mainz to sign Japan international Yoshinori Muto.

Muto has completed a medical and agreed personal terms to join Newcastle for an undisclosed fee.

The transfer is subject to the 26-year-old being issued with a Governing Body Endorsement, which will be determined at a hearing next week.

Striker Muto scored eight goals and got two assists in 20 starts in the Bundesliga last season. He also played at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

He would become Newcastle’s fifth summer signing ahead of their first match of 2018/19 at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 11 August.
