2003: Geremi joins Chelsea

After a season on loan with Middlesbrough, followed by an impressive FIFA Confederations Cup campaign with Cameroon, Chelsea agreed terms with Real Madrid to sign Geremi on a five-year deal.

The midfielder enjoyed a successful first season at Stamford Bridge, yet struggled to hold down a regular place following the arrival of Jose Mourinho, who switched him to right-back.

However, Geremi did win the Premier League title twice during his four seasons at the club before joining Newcastle United, where he spent two further campaigns.

He made 72 of his 147 PL appearances for Chelsea, scoring four of his 12 goals for the Blues.

2013: Sunderland swoop for Giaccherini

Sunderland completed the transfer of Emanuele Giaccherini from Juventus on a four-year deal.

The Italy international scored his first goal for the Black Cats in their second PL fixture of the season in a 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Giaccherini went on to score three more goals in 24 PL appearances for the club, but the following season was plagued by injury.

He was loaned to Bologna for the 2015/16 season before being sold to Napoli the following summer following Sunderland’s relegation.
