There are few, if any, Fantasy Premier League assets quite as reliable as Sergio Aguero (£13.0m) when it comes to finding the back of the net.

The Manchester City frontman ended just one goal short of the 25 strikes of Golden Boot winner Harry Kane (£11.0m) in 2015/16, despite playing more than 1000 minutes less than the Tottenham Hotspur man.

Aguero’s average of 101.8 minutes per goal was the quickest in last term’s top flight, which bodes well as City prepare for life under Pep Guardiola

The Argentinian has been quick to mirror that prolific form this summer, scoring in both his appearances for the new manager, and can look forward to a season opener at home to Sunderland.

Bearing in mind Sunderland conceded the most goals (42) on their travels last term and picked up just two away clean sheets, their new manager, David Moyes, has his work cut out this weekend.

Worryingly for Moyes, Aguero’s home statistics were even more impressive in 2015/16.

He netted every 85.1 minutes in front of his own fans, with his minutes per shot (18.8 compared with 22.9) and goal conversion (22.1% and 17.6%) superior to his away numbers.

With West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth set to visit in the opening five Gameweeks, in addition to a trip to Stoke City, Aguero looks a very strong contender for the FPL armband for the foreseeable future.

The major test arrives in Gameweek 4 with a trip to Manchester United, although, even then, history suggests that Aguero could flourish.

Aguero has scored in all three of his Premier League appearances at Old Trafford and found the net on four occasions.

With such consistent output, it is no surprise to see that, in spite of that lofty valuation, the City striker sits in more than 40% of squads, making him the most popular outfield player in the FPL.
