Slaven Bilic

22 Jun 2016

Slaven Bilic has taken charge of two clubs in the Premier League, with West Bromwich Albion being the most recent.

As a player, the Croatian represented West Ham United and Everton in the competition while earning 44 caps for his country, helping them finish third at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

He began his managerial career in 2001 at Hajduk Split, going on to coach Croatia's Under-21s in 2004 and then become the national team manager in 2006.

During Bilic's six years in charge of Croatia, he guided the country to the quarter-finals of the 2008 UEFA European Championship, knocking England out in the qualifiers in the process.

A year-long spell with Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow followed, and then a two-year stay in Turkey with Besiktas.

Bilic returned to the Premier League and West Ham in June 2015, replacing Sam Allardyce as manager.

He led the Hammers to a seventh-place finish in his first season, securing a place in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, and then an 11th-place finish in 2016/17.

The following term the east Londoners found themselves in the bottom three after 11 league matches, and Bilic departed in November 2017.

He spent five months as manager of Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia before returning to England.

Bilic was appointed West Brom's head coach in June 2019 and secured promotion in his first season, with his team finishing second behind Leeds United.

However, Bilic and West Brom parted company on 16 December 2020 with the Baggies on seven points from 13 matches.
