Romelu Lukaku has just equalled a Premier League record set by Andrew Cole, but he already has his eye on another.

The Manchester United forward's seventh goal of the season against Crystal Palace sent Lukaku to the top of the 2017/18 scoring charts.

It also matched Cole's record for the most goals scored by a player in their first seven PL matches for Man Utd.

But Lukaku's consistency has him closing in on another Cole feat.

Saturday's victory was the sixth different match in which Lukaku has scored this season, putting him on course to break the record for the most matches scored in during a Premier League campaign.

Cole's 26 for Newcastle United in 1993/94 leads the way, ahead of Alan Shearer's 24 for Blackburn Rovers in 1994/95.

But both totals were posted before the competition was cut to 20 teams.

The record for a 38-match season is jointly-held by two former Man Utd players, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin van Persie, who both scored in 21 matches.

Lukaku has only failed to score in one match, against Leicester City in Matchweek 3.

If he keeps up his current rate the Belgian will end 2017/18 having scored in 32 different matches, 11 more than Ronaldo and Van Persie.

Scorers in most matches
Player Season Club Matches scored in
Andrew Cole 1993/94 NEW 26
Alan Shearer 1994/95 BLB 24
Cristiano Ronaldo 2007/08 MUN 21
Robin van Persie 2012/13 MUN 21

Liverpool will be the next opponents to try to slow him down when United visit Anfield on Saturday 14 October.
