Crystal Palace defender plays first competitive match since being seriously injured in car crash a year ago

Pape Souare was delighted at a first return to competitive action since a car crash one year ago.

The 27-year-old defender played a half for Crystal Palace in a Professional Development League match against Nottingham Forest at Selhurst Park on Tuesday and expressed his gratitude to the medical team who have helped his recovery from a fractured thigh and jaw.

“This is my first main injury I have had since playing football and really I am just delighted to be in a position to be playing," Souare told "I would like to thank the medical team for all the work they have done to get me back to this stage so that I am ready to be playing again."
