Liverpool, Brighton, West Ham and Villa learn European opponents

The four Premier League clubs were given contrasting fortunes as the draws for the UEFA Europa League and Europa Conference League rounds of 16 were made on Friday.

Liverpool will face Sparta Prague, with the first leg in the Czech Republic on Thursday March 7 and the return leg at Anfield a week later. The Reds last played in the Czech capital under Kenny Dalglish in 2011.

Jurgen Klopp's side face a huge title showdown against Manchester City at Anfield between the two European ties on Sunday 10 March, but their visit to Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday 17 March, three days after the second leg, will be postponed if the Toffees progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Brighton & Hove Albion were drawn against Italian giants Roma, travelling to Italy for the first leg on Thursday March 7 before the second leg at Amex Stadium seven days later.

The Seagulls are at home to Nottingham Forest on Sunday 10 March, and are scheduled to host Man City on Sunday 17 March. But the clash against the champions will be postponed if either Brighton or City make it through to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

West Ham United will face familiar foes in the round of 16 when they take on German side Freiburg.

The two sides met in this season's group stage, with the Hammers winning both matches, 2-1 in Germany and 2-0 at London Stadium.

David Moyes's men head to Germany for the first leg on Thursday March 7 before welcoming Freiburg to east London seven days later.

West Ham entertain Burnley on Sunday 10 March and welcome Aston Villa a week later in the Premier League.

In the Europa Conference League, Villa were drawn against Ajax. Unai Emery's side will head to Amsterdam on Thursday March 7 before hosting the Dutch side a week later.

Villa face a crucial showdown at home to top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 10 March, before their trip to West Ham seven days later.
