A busy month of December begins with a full slate of action in Matchweek 14.
Manchester United will be the latest team to test the fortress that is St James’ Park when they travel to face Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
Although Newcastle’s home clean-sheet streak ended last weekend, they earned their fifth straight home win with a 4-1 victory over Chelsea. That victory could have moved the Magpies over Man Utd in the table, but the Red Devils’ own convincing 3-0 victory over Everton helped them hold onto sixth place.
With only one point separating these two sides in the table, the stakes will be high when this match kicks off.
All signs point to a high-scoring affair when Chelsea welcomes Brighton & Hove Albion to Stamford Bridge on Sunday morning. Brighton has scored and conceded in every match this season, and doing so for a 14th match will make them just the sixth top-flight team to do that and the first since Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1934/35.
The Seagulls are coming off a 3-2 victory at Nottingham Forest and will want to continue that momentum on the road in London.
Throughout the last three Blues games, at least one side has scored four goals, a 4-1 victory over Spurs, a 4-4 draw against Manchester City, and then a 4-1 loss to Newcastle last weekend. Both sides have delivered very entertaining matches this season and the fireworks should be on full display on Sunday.
NBC Spotlight
The biggest match of the weekend goes down at Etihad Stadium when Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. If this match had taken place only a couple of weeks ago it would’ve been between the two top teams on the table, but a handful of results not going to plan for both has seen City fall to second place and Spurs to fifth. This is a big match for both to get back on track.
Spurs have been a thorn in the side of Pep Guardiola, who has lost to them more than any other club since taking over at City in 2016.
Ange Postecogolou’s side will hope that history reigns over their recent struggles, as they come into this one on a three-match losing streak after going unbeaten in their first 11. A win for either side will be crucial in helping them move back up the table.
Make sure you tune into this one. Catch the match on Peacock on Sunday at 11:30 AM ET. Stream here.
