Mason Mount delivered a promising display in his first outing for Manchester United, playing 45 minutes in a 2-0 win against Leeds United.

“Oh [he was] great, but we could expect this. He has so many skills and I'm sure we will take so much joy from him. He will contribute to our performance, absolutely,” Erik ten Hag said of Mount after the match.

The club's first summer signing was named in Ten Hag's starting line-up and nearly capped it off with a goal.

Mount showed Man Utd fans a sign of things to come by pressing well to win the ball back inside the opposition half. He then attempted to chip the Leeds goalkeeper who was off his line, but saw his effort bounce onto the roof of the net.

Lisandro Martinez was also named in the starting XI for the first time since April after recovering from a fractured metatarsal bone in his foot.

Goals in the second half from Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill saw the Red Devils start their pre-season with a victory.

Round-up of other fixtures

Brentford were also in action this evening and were held to a 1-1 draw against Boreham Wood.

The Bees took the lead through Halil Dervisoglu when he tapped into an empty net after a surging run from Rico Henry, but were pegged back through Timmy Abraham.

There was also a debut for summer acquisition Ji-soo Kim, who was named in the second half line-up.

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers beat SC Farense 1-0 behind closed doors which followed a 2-1 success against Vitoria three days ago.
