The penultimate week of the Premier League season is upon us and the stakes are high.
After a tumultuous campaign, Liverpool have rounded into fine form to close out 2022/23, winning their last seven matches. The Reds have put themselves in a position to contend for a top-four finish and are only one point behind Newcastle United and Manchester United.
Needing another victory, Jurgen Klopp’s side will need to defeat the similarly resurgent Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s side were challenging for a top-four finish before a couple of tough defeats on the road.
Still, the Villans found their form with a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur last week and will be aiming to add a victory over another top club when they travel to Anfield.
Saturday afternoon will also feature a battle between two clubs with very different battles on their hands as Nottingham Forest host Arsenal.
After several weeks in the relegation zone, seven points in their last four matches has seen Forest move up to 16th, three points clear of the drop zone. A win over the Gunners would all but seal their safety as a Premier League team for next season. Arsenal’s title hopes took a massive blow with their 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, but if Mikel Arteta’s side can win at the City Ground the race will stay alive.
