This will be the first league meeting between Brentford and Arsenal since May 1947, a match the Gunners won 1-0 at Griffin Park.

Brentford against Arsenal is only the third-ever Premier League match to be played on Friday 13th and the first since April 2001.

This is the fourth time Arsenal have been involved in the opening match of a Premier League campaign, winning the other three against West Bromwich Albion (2008/09), Leicester City (2017/18) and Fulham (2020/21).

Nicolas Pepe can be the first Arsenal player since Robin van Persie to score a brace in three consecutive PL matches, after netting twice in the final two fixtures of 2020/21.
