Goals in either half by Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock ensured Arsenal bounced back from consecutive defeats to beat Southampton 2-0 at St Mary's Stadium.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang crashed an effort against the crossbar before Arsenal took the lead after 20 minutes.

Nketiah intercepted Alex McCarthy's pass and rounded the goalkeeper to tap into an empty net.

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse grazed the crossbar with a sweeping strike before Arsenal's Emiliano Martinez, starting in place of the injured Bernd Leno, saved superbly from Danny Ings.

Jack Stephens received a red card for bringing down Aubameyang when through on goal late on.

Willock made it 2-0 from the resulting free-kick, the substitute sweeping in after McCarthy had parried Alexandre Lacazette's shot.

Arsenal move up to ninth with 43 points, six clear of Southampton in 14th.
