First-teamers Seb Larsson and Jan Kirchhoff were on target as Sunderland earned their first win in six Premier League 2 Division 1 matches by beating Manchester United 2-0 at Leigh Sports Village.
Larsson's deflected effort put the visitors ahead on the stroke of half-time and Kirchhoff, playing his first 90 minutes since the start of October after injury, wrapped things up on the hour mark to end Man Utd's unbeaten home record.
The win enabled the Black Cats to overtake United and climb up to fourth place in the table - four points behind third-placed Liverpool and seven behind leaders Everton - while United are eighth, five points clear of the bottom two.
