Newcastle United are aiming for a first win at St James' Park this season, against a Manchester United side who are winless on their travels in 2019/20.

Team news

Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring) and Jetro Willems (knee) are in contention for Newcastle, while Steve Bruce will make a late decision on fit-again striker Dwight Gayle.

However, Isaac Hayden starts a three-match suspension, joining Matt Ritchie (ankle) and long-term absentee Florian Lejeune (knee) on the sidelines.

Jesse Lingard (hamstring) and Paul Pogba (ankle) are both major doubts for Man Utd and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (illness) will be monitored.

Sunday's match may come too soon for Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are definitely ruled out.

This will be Steve Bruce’s 400th Premier League match (W111 D111 L177) but the Newcastle head coach is looking for a first win over Man Utd at the 22nd attempt.

Man Utd have won 13 PL away matches at Newcastle. They have only won more at Aston Villa and Everton, with 15 and 16 respectively.

Newcastle are aiming to avoid this becoming the fifth top-flight season in which they fail to win any of their first four home matches, after 1898/99, 1905/06, 2015/16 and 2018/19.

The Red Devils are targeting their first win in eight PL away matches (D3 L4). They last had a longer such winless run in the top flight between February and September 1989, with 11 matches.
