27 Aug 2019
Andre Gray, Watford

Newcastle United are aiming to build on their first win under Steve Bruce, having triumphed at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Watford are seeking to put their first points on the board and move off the foot of the table.

Team news

Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce expects to be without Matt Ritchie (ankle) for two months, and Allan Saint-Maximin (hamstring) for three to five weeks.

Andy Carroll is not yet ready to play, while Dwight Gayle (calf) and DeAndre Yedlin (lack of match fitness) are also out, and Miguel Almiron (ankle), Emil Krafth and Jetro Willems (both muscle issues) are all doubts.

Joelinton (groin) is expected to be available, however.

Watford are only missing captain Troy Deeney, who underwent knee surgery last week.

Did you know?

Newcastle were unbeaten in their Premier League meetings with Watford last term, winning one match and drawing the other, having lost all four of the fixtures across the 2015/16 and 2017/18 seasons.

This will be Steve Bruce's first PL meeting with Watford. He last faced them in the Championship in April 2013, falling to a 1-0 defeat with Hull City.

Watford have won three of their last four matches at Newcastle in all competitions, after winning just two of their first 17 visits there.

Andre Gray has scored in both of his PL starts against Newcastle and the Hornets won both matches, in November 2017 and May 2018.
