Paolo Fernandes struck twice to help Manchester City to a 3-0 win at Southampton, which took them up to second in Premier League 2 Division 1.
Fernandes scored 10 minutes before and eight minutes after half-time with two powerful shots before Saints defender Florin Gardos, stepping up his comeback from injury, deflected a cross from substitute Luke Bolton into his own net for the third.
The result meant Man City climbed above Saints and Liverpool to within a point of leaders Everton.
