Juan Mata's (£7.4m) return to the Manchester United starting XI coincided with their most emphatic performance of the season last weekend.

After back-to-back Premier League losses against Manchester City and Watford, Jose Mourinho opted to drop Wayne Rooney (£8.8m) to the bench and recall the Spaniard to his starting line-up for the visit of Leicester City.

Handed the number 10 role behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic (£11.5m), Mata's goal and assist earned the playmaker the maximum bonus points in a 4-1 victory over Claudio Ranieri's side.

Having been positioned on the right flank in his previous appearances, Mata's display in a central position afforded United a better balance against the champions.

In dropping deep to link midfield with attack it afforded Paul Pogba (£8.3m) the license to forage forward and he duly scored his first goal of the campaign.

Marcus Rashford (£6.9m) and Jesse Lingard (£5.7m), in the wide positions, grabbed a goal and an assist respectively, yet it was Mata, with a 13-point return, who produced the highest FPL haul of any United player against the Foxes.

The Spaniard has now accrued 26 points in the four league fixtures he has started this term, averaging 6.5 points per appearance when named in Mourinho's first XI.

So far, only Ibrahimovic (nine to five) has produced more shots on target than Mata for United. He has also recorded more efforts from inside the box (five) than any midfield team-mate.

Pogba £8.3m 10.2% 4 1
Martial £9.3m 3.3% 1 0

After dropping to the bench in each of the previous two Gameweeks, Mata's starting role still remains in question under Mourinho.

But given the nature of his performance last Saturday the playmaker could be set to retain his role for this weekend's home encounter against Stoke City.

Yet to keep a clean sheet this season, Mark Hughes's men have conceded 15 goals in the first six Gameweeks. Only West Ham United (16) have shown greater vulnerability in defence.

Remember the Gameweek 7 deadline is at 7pm BST Friday 30 September
