There will be six Premier League clubs in the quarter-finals of UEFA competitions for the first time after Arsenal and Chelsea sealed their passages through to the last eight of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
Two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a first in Europe for Ainsley Maitland-Niles gave Arsenal a 3-0 home victory over Rennes.
The Gunners became only the second club, after Fulham against Juventus in 2009/10, to progress in the competition after losing the first away leg 3-1.
Perfect Giroud
A perfect hat-trick for Olivier Giroud took his tally in the competition to nine and secured a 5-0 win for Chelsea at Dynamo Kiev and an aggregate victory of 8-0.
It meant Chelsea and Arsenal’s quest for European glory joined those of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, who secured last-eight places in the UEFA Champions League.
The last time England had six clubs in the quarter-finals of European competition was in 1970/71.
Double draws
The draws for both competitions will take place on Friday, 15 March.
The UEFA Champions League quarter-final draw will commence at 11:00 GMT, followed by one for the semi-finals.
The draw for the UEFA Europa League last eight will start from 12:00 GMT, with the semi-finals also decided.
