Joshua Bohui set up James Wilson to equalise for United on the hour mark, but Grujic quickly restored Liverpool's lead by heading in Ben Woodburn's corner.

Both teams play again on Sunday 29 October with United, who are two points adrift of 11th-placed Chelsea, facing Sunderland at Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground and Liverpool hosting Leicester City at Tranmere.
