Unai Emery's success as a coach in Spain and France plus his track record in promoting youth helped to get the Spaniard the role of head coach at Arsenal.

The 46-year-old has taken over from Arsene Wenger at Emirates Stadium shortly after completing the treble of French league title, French Cup and League Cup with Paris Saint-Germain. He also won three consecutive UEFA Europa Leagues with Sevilla.

But trophies were not the only factor behind appointing Emery, Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said.

"Unai has an outstanding track record of success throughout his career, has developed some of the best young talent in Europe and plays an exciting, progressive style of football that fits Arsenal perfectly," Gazidis told Arsenal's official website.

"His hard-working and passionate approach and his sense of values on and off the pitch make him the ideal person to take us forward."

Excited Emery

Emery has spoken of his excitement at starting a "new chapter" after 22 years of management of the club by Wenger, who guided the club to three Premier League titles.

"I am thrilled to be joining one of the great clubs in the game," said the 46-year-old, the same age as Wenger when he took charge in 1996.

"Arsenal is known and loved throughout the world for its style of play, its commitment to young players, the fantastic stadium, the way the club is run.

"I’m very excited to be given the responsibility to start this important new chapter in Arsenal’s history."
