Having served up 22 goals and 23 assists in his final two seasons at German club Hoffenheim, much was expected of Roberto Firmino (£8.5m) following his arrival at Liverpool last summer.

Despite his record in the Bundesliga, former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers seemed unconvinced. The Irishman handed the new boy only three starts and a trio of brief appearances as a substitute in the opening eight Gameweeks before leaving Anfield.

The arrival of Jurgen Klopp in early October proved a turning point for Firmino's Fantasy Premier League potential.

After failing to play a part in any of Liverpool's goals with Rodgers at the helm, the summer signing delivered 10 goals, eight assists and 18 bonus points in 25 top-flight outings under the German's guidance, averaging 5.8 FPL points per match.

From the point of his first appearance under Klopp in Gameweek 10 last year, Firmino's tally of 10 strikes was inferior only to Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez in the centre of the park and only three midfielders bettered his 23 attempts on target.

Firmino has continued that form during the close-season.

In a summer where many top-flight players were involved in action for their countries in UEFA Euro 2016 or the Copa America, the Brazilian has been fully rested and scored three times in pre-season, including a strike in the Reds' recent friendly win over AC Milan.

Summer signings Sadio Mane (£9.0m) and Georginio Wijnaldum (£8.0m) bolster Klopp's options, and with Philippe Coutinho (£8.0m) also in contention, there's no shortage of assets for FPL managers eyeing up the Reds' midfield.

Firmino's versatility could prove decisive. Able to play as an attacking midfielder or a "false nine", his eye for goal looks crucial to the Reds' prospects for the season.

The Merseysiders also have a lack of European fixtures to contend with, meaning that Klopp can now fully concentrate on domestic duties in his first full season in charge.

Although Liverpool have been handed a tough start to the upcoming campaign, with matches against Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Chelsea in the first five Gameweeks, it is worth noting that the Brazilian scored or assisted against three of those sides under Klopp in 2015/16.

Having also delivered two goals and three assists at Manchester City last season, he has the potential to pick up points regardless of fixture difficulty.
