Newcastle United beat Southampton 2-0 to secure their place in the knockout stages, leaving the visitors to wait for potential qualification.

Luke Charman scored both goals in the second half, finding the left corner with a drilled effort on 65 minutes before firing past Harry Lewis again with five minutes remaining.

The result means Newcastle replace Southampton as Group A leaders after their final fixture.

Saints are two points ahead of third-placed Swansea City and three above bottom club Bristol City, meaning they need a draw or for Bristol City to win by fewer than four goals when they meet at Ashton Gate on Thursday 9 March.

Southampton face Chelsea in Premier League 2 at St Mary’s Stadium on Monday 6 March for their next match, while Newcastle host Norwich City on the same day.
