Sion Spence scored the only goal as Crystal Palace won at Middlesbrough to leap into the Division 2 playoff spots in their final match, while leaving their hosts in danger of missing out.
Palace jumped from seventh to third place with Friday's victory.
Fifth-placed Middlesbrough would drop out of the playoff spots if sixth-placed Sunderland, who are only behind them on goal difference and have a match still to play, avoid defeat against second-placed Stoke City on Monday.
