Sunderland dented Reading's hopes of promotion to Division 1 with a 2-0 away win.
A Jeriel Dorsett own goal and a second-half Josh Hawkes strike gave Sunderland a third consecutive win and lifted them to eighth, one point off a playoff place.
Reading are a point better off in sixth but have the worst goal difference in the division.
