Manchester City are aiming to return to winning ways and close the gap on Liverpool to two points ahead of the leaders' trip to Chelsea on Sunday as they celebrate their 125th anniversary. 

Bottom club Watford are still seeking their first victory of the campaign but are unbeaten in their last two having come from two goals down to draw with Arsenal in Quique Sanchez Flores' first match back as head coach.

Man City have a trio of players ruled out with Aymeric Laporte (knee), John Stones (thigh) and Leroy Sane (knee) sidelined. Phil Foden has recovered from a virus.

Watford are missing Craig Cathcart (muscle) and Isaac Success (groin), but head coach Quique Sanchez Flores confirms defender Cathcart is expected to return to training next week.

Troy Deeney (knee) remains unavailable.

Manchester City have won their last 11 meetings with Watford in all competitions, scoring at least twice in each match and 38 times in total.

City's 2-3 loss at Norwich City last weekend was their first Premier League defeat in 19 matches. They are now aiming to avoid losing consecutive matches in the competition for the first time since December 2018 when they were beaten by Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

Sergio Aguero has scored 10 goals in his seven appearances against Watford in all competitions and has netted in his last six League matches overall. The last player to score in seven in a row was Romelu Lukaku in December 2015 for Everton.

This will be the fourth managerial meeting between Pep Guardiola and Sanchez Flores but the first in England. Sanchez Flores won the first match as Atletico Madrid manager in February 2010 against Guardiola's Barcelona.
